Am always reflective on a day like this...21 years ago (how did THAT happen?!) I had a baby boy.
It took 37 and a half hours.
It was not pretty (it never is..do NOT pay any heed to sensible-shoe-wearing-flower-in-hair-I-wanna-do-it-natural types). It is not pretty, and it hurts like a m*****rf****r. I remember the drugs wearing off after it was all done..and thinking "The horror...the horror" (to borrow from Joseph Conrad's Heart Of Darkness which became the movie Apocalypse Now). I actually lay in the bed saying it to myself...channelling Martin Sheen...
But I would do it again! Of course I would. The result...an extremely bright, gorgeous, albeit somewhat... abstract thinker of a young man...and he's mine. His sister and I adore him and I think he knows it. Happy Birthday Cameron! We are very proud of you. And I honestly believe you are the most handsome man on the face of the earth.

Every year, I really enjoy the World Jr. Hockey Championships over the Christmas-New Year Holiday break.
It's exciting, fast paced action with a chance to see who some of the future stars of the NHL will be.
Team Canada had a lot of weight on their shoulders going into the tournament with going for a 5th consecutive Gold Medal. They were 5 seconds away from being out of contention after a brilliant performance from the Russian squad in the semi-finals. Somehow though, they managed to squeak through into the Gold medal round and last night's performance against Sweden was their BEST of the tournament.
It's so cool how the entire country gets behind the team. No politics to think about, no petty rivalries, just Canada. Golden!
Back in Black... Good to be back on Rock95. I crack the mic in studio and it feels like home for me, after an awesome holiday!
Tonight, dreams may come true for young Canadian hockey players representing the 'red and white' at The World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa. Go Canada Go!!
No matter what your interests. It's important to have a passion. Whether its a passion for your family, or even what you do for a living. Many Canadians share a passion for the game of hockey. While it is, just a game. It's much more than that for the kids playing on Team Canada tonight. Thanks to their families they grew up playing the game of Hockey, and tonight their shared passion will lead to GOLD!!! Their ultimate reward for being so passionate.
I have questions...I often do.
Why is a pair of underwear called a "pair"? And don't tell me it's 'cause pants are called a "pair of pants"...there are two legs...and I would argue that the particular item of clothing should be called pants. Just pants. No a pair. But back to the gitch...why is it (or they) called "a pair"?
Why, when you get an annoying pop up when surfing the 'net, is it now near impossible to find the "close" clicky thing? It used to be right in the corner of the offending pop up. Now, it's something you have to search for...and sometimes you can't find it!
Why, when you shorten "pissed off" does it come out p-o'd? Wouldn't it be peed-o'd?
Why does the family pet -- dog or cat make it a point to seek out carpet (and seemingly go for the carpet is the cleanest) to barf? My house is 90% hardwood and ceramic tile...yet...it's the one or two rugs that get it. Every time. Without fail. Why?
Just wonderin'. I will have more. What are yours?

Well, I hope you had a WONDERFUL holiday season, and here we are back at it. Kids are back to school, it's back to work now (unless your a Federal Politician).
The line-ups at the Tim Horton's are backed up to the road once again. People are back to being rude out on the roadways again. A new year, but a lot of the same old. I hope 2009 is a good year for you.
You can start the New Year off with a good time at Barrie's Georgian College. Theory of a Deadman is in town one week from tonight. A chance for you to catch their live act before they head out on their North American tour with Motley Crew starting next month. Be listening for your chance to WIN tickets to get into the show this week on ROCK 95!
I am, by no means a master critic...but I have my opinions. So now that the year of 08' is officially in the books. I thought I would give the lowdown of what I thought were the best movies I've seen released this past year.
Now keep in mind, I haven't seen a lot. With a four year old at home I get to see whatever makes it to cable, and the few that I was able to track down at the theatre. I also don't rent much...but that's because I'm lazy.
So here's my list of the top 5, plus a list of what I have seen, so I don't get any e-mails saying..."Why wasn't The Love Guru on the list"....Which I'm sure wouldn't happen from what I've heard.
5. Burn after Reading -- Not a masterpiece by the Coen's like Fargo or No Country For Old Men, but the movie is well paced and quite funny.
4. Wall-E -- The best family film since Finding Nemo. It's Science Fiction, It's comedy, It's a love story, and it's beautiful to look at. It's a guaranteed oscar for best animated feature at the oscars.
3. The Visitor -- A wonderful story about a middle age man who finds friendship and a purpose in life. If Richard Jenkins gets a best actor nomination, I'll be a happy man. It's a small film, and would have been higher on my list had it not been for a contrived romance that takes place in the final third...but it's still a gem.
2. Iron Man -- If you think about it, Iron Man is a pretty silly character, but then, I guess most superheroes are. But director John Favreau give this one a very mature treatment. I've been looking for a comic movie like this since the original Superman. One that didn't take itself too seriously, but left out the comic book corn. I'm not a comic book guy, and I generally don't like superhero movies. I never even heard of Iron Man before this movie. But when this was released this summer, and I caught it at the drive in with my family...it quickly became my favourite super hero movie of all time.....Until.
1. The Dark Knight -- I'm not a blockbuster person that's all about hype, but I was genuanly suprised that The Dark Knight almost achieved perfection. It reminded me of one of my top 90's films "Heat" rather than a Batman movie. Yes Heath Ledger is great, and will probably get the oscar, but Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent is equal. It's a brisk movie that's riveting on so many levels. It's not a one trick pony. I wasn't a fan of Batman Begins which was too dark for it's own good, but I did admire the tone. The Dark Knight nailed it all. There is room for a sequel. But there is also a feeling of closure...I hope it's the last one, a sequel would only cheapen things.
There you go, my short list...still many I'd like to see like Milk, Frost/Nixon and Slumdog Millionaire, but I'm not a Barrie Millionaire without a job. So here's a list of the rest that I've seen from Best (of what's left) to worst.
The Changeling -- Good, but not great Eastwood
Incredible Hulk -- Solid action. I want to stress I only saw this because of my son who loves superheroes...I'm not some comic geek
The Grand -- Fun mockumentary on poker
Mad Money -- Not as bad as it should have been.
Spiderwick Chronicles -- Standard fantasy flick....good effects
Charlie Bartlett -- Another Farris Bueller wannabe
Untraceable -- Almost Unwatchable
27 Dresses -- Predictable "chick" flick
Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull -- Indiana comeback a thud
Forbidden Kingdom -- Jackie Chan movies get worse and worse
Over her dead body -- Lame, not a laugh to be found
My Blueberry Nights -- Wanna see Norah Jones act...neither did I
Tracy Fragments -- All style, dull story
Sex and death 101 -- Not a porn and no fun at all
Diary of the dead -- Zombie thud
